Implant Replacement
A woman who has had breast implants for many years may find that one or both of her implants are leaking. The body may absorb saline safely, but for aesthetic reasons, most elect to have their implants replaced. Silicone gel implants should always be removed and replaced if they are leaking. Some women whose implants have not yet deflated decide that their breasts are too large or too small. Others who have had breast augmentation with plastic surgeons who did not fully consider their desired look may be unhappy with the appearance of their implants or may have suffered complications. In November 2006, the FDA approved silicone gel Mentor MemoryGel™ implants for cosmetic surgery. Patients may choose to replace their saline implants with these new natural looking, safe silicone implants.
